Do You Believe In Miracles?

Have you ever noticed how often the word miracles shows up in our everyday language?

It’s woven into our culture. People talk about miracles, sing about them, and watch movies centered around them. The word slips into our conversations almost without thinking. We say things like, “It’ll take a miracle,” or “That was nothing short of a miracle.” Even people who never talk about God still talk about miracles, because deep down, we all experience moments we can’t quite explain.

Think about how often miracles show up in music—from Hot Chocolate singing “I believe in miracles” in the 70s, to Queen declaring “It’s a miracle” in the 80s, to Coldplay’s more recent song “Miracles” repeating the phrase “Believe in miracles.” And who can forget Jefferson Starship’s classic line, “If only you believe in miracles.”

And then there are the movies—The Green Mile, Awakenings, Miracles from Heaven—stories that draw us in because they touch something deep inside us, something that recognizes the miraculous even when we can’t explain it.

But what is a miracle, really?

At its core, a miracle is an unexpected, unlikely, or humanly impossible event that points to a power greater than ourselves at work.

It might be a healing, a rescue, a moment of perfect timing, or an encounter that shifts something inside us.

It might be big or small, loud or gentle — but whatever form it takes, it opens our eyes to the truth that we are not walking through life alone.

Miracles don’t always look like lightning bolts or parted seas. Sometimes they’re quiet, subtle, or wrapped in timing we didn’t expect (and couldn’t have orchestrated ourselves). Some prayers are answered through a miracle. Blessings, protection, and synchronicity are miracles too — but we often brush them off as luck or coincidence.

I want to share two (of many) miracles I’ve experienced — one undeniable and dramatic, and the other quiet yet deeply powerful.

Powerful Testimonies of Miracles

  1. A Cluster of Simultaneous Miracles

About six years ago, during an annual routine exam, my doctor found a significant mass in my breast—one I could feel myself, and at the very same time, routine bloodwork showed two of my liver enzymes were sky-high. I had to wait three long weeks for a special breast scan and repeat labs. During that time, I prayed individually and collectively with my Bible study sisters who also laid hands on me. On the morning of the scan, an unexplainable peace settled over me. When the radiologist came in, she said she couldn’t find anything and asked me to show her where it was. But when I reached for it… it was gone! Completely gone! And the repeat bloodwork? One enzyme was back to normal and the other was only slightly elevated.

It’s important to point out that this testimony encompassed multiple miracles; a physical miracle with the mass disappearing, a medical miracle with the liver enzymes normalizing, a spiritual miracle with the unexplainable peace that came over me, a communal miracle with the bible study women praying and laying hands on me, and a timing miracle in that both issues resolved simultaneously! God’s fingerprints were unmistakable.

  1. Unprecedented Provision

Several years ago, God called me out of my 30-year corporate career, and He used a downsizing event to do it. What should have been a financial crisis turned into one of the clearest miracles I’ve ever experienced. My company, which had always offered 6 months of severance with downsizing events, suddenly increased it to 12 months. At the very same time, unemployment benefits were extended to 99 weeks instead of the usual 24, something that had never happened before and hasn’t happened since. As soon as I received my severance and was approved for the 99 weeks, everything went back to normal.

The timing was so precise, so unprecedented, and so protective that I knew it wasn’t luck or coincidence. It was God … quietly providing, guiding, and preparing me for the next chapter.

This miracle came through ordinary channels (HR, severance policy, unemployment law), but the orchestration was anything but ordinary. Many would call it lucky timing or coincidence — but it was God’s strategic, protective hand at work.

Do you see how both testimonies reinforce my definition of miracles?

Both involved unexpected, unlikely, humanly impossible events that pointed to a power greater than myself.

Pause and Reflect

Where have miracles shown up in your life?

Miracles are often easier to see in hindsight, yet they are happening all around us.

A Gentle Reminder

Miracles aren’t just something God did long ago or something He does for others but not for you. He is still in the miracle-working business today—revealing His presence, power, love, and protection in ways both bold and quiet.

Open your heart and eyes going forward. Miracles don’t always look the same. Some arrive with undeniable power, and others unfold quietly. But every miracle carries the same message:

God sees you. God is with you. God is working, even when you don’t recognize it until later.

A Closing Encouragement

My prayer is that, from this moment forward, you will walk through your days with expectancy and softened awareness—eyes open to the miracles He is blessing you with. And as you recognize God’s hand in your life, may your heart respond with the praise He so richly deserves.
